ACTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Acton firefighters were faced with a unique rescue effort on Thursday... to save a doll from a storm drain.

On Thursday morning, a young girl was waiting for the school bus with her mom when she accidentally dropped her doll down a storm drain. After getting her daughter on the bus, Olga Lisysyan, of Acton, got to work trying to retrieve the doll from the drain.

Acton Fire Captain James Byrne spotted Lisysyan using a pole and a net to reach into a storm drain while driving by on Pond View Drive, Acton Fire Department said. Captain Byrne pulled over to see if she needed help.

Lisysyan told the fire captain the doll had fallen out of her 7-year-old daughter's pocket into the drain. She said her daughter had just turned 7 on Wednesday and borrowed the doll from a friend who she was planning on returning it to at school.

After hearing Lisysyan's story, Captain Byrne requested assistance at the scene.

Firefighters Steve Dimeco and Clem Tyler arrived and were able to pry the grate off of the storm drain and retrieve the doll.

"Our firefighters face a wide variety of hazards and challenges, but this challenge was a little unique," Chief Hart said in a statement. "I am proud of Capt. Byrne, Firefighter Dimeco, and Firefighter Tyler for showing that the Acton Fire Department is always here for our community, no matter what challenges await. On behalf of the entire Acton Fire Department, I would also like to wish this young member of our community a very happy birthday!"

Lisysyan gave the doll back to her daughter after school on Thursday and it was later returned to its rightful owner.
