BRAINTREE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Hollywood East is setting up shop in Braintree.

Boston-based developer, RISE, announced on Friday it has obtained the rights to the Banner Park campus in Braintree and plans to turn the property into a movie studio.

The 123 acre property, near the Weymouth town line, used to be home to the Massachusetts Lottery. Now, the developed land will be turned into a studio with seven sound stages to help Boston's movie industry grow.

WBZ's Jim MacKay talked with some Braintree residents that seemed excited about the new project.

"I think it's going to be an amazing transformation of this area," one resident said. "As a neighborhood, as part of the film industry, and employment."

The movie studio is expected to bring about 800 jobs to the area with about $8 million in tax revenue over the next decade.

"We can see something that possibly you get the chance to help with and then put onto the big screen," one man said.

Apple studios and Netflix have already begun utilizing the property.
