Bostonians Share Traditional Holiday Dishes, One Family Makes "Green Slime"

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Most families have their own traditional holiday dishes they make year after year. While many are influenced by their family's cultural roots, some choose to get experimental when it comes to a Christmas meal with family and friends.

One WBZ NewsRadio staffer's family has their own unique holiday dish they call "green slime."

"Essentially it is this Jell-O mold thing that is an opaque green, it tastes like lime and has like walnuts, [and] I think pineapple chunks," she said.

"I've never even heard of green slime other than like the slime we played with as kids," one man said after hearing about the special holiday dish. "Food being called green slime, no way man."

Green slime might not be for everyone... but for those who are interested in making their own beware most green slime recipes online are not for eating.

Along with goofy family traditions, culture, religion, and family heritage also play a huge role when it comes to Massachusetts residents ideal holiday dishes.

"I like roast lamb, I'm Greek so we like roasting our lamb, lemon roast potatoes, some Greek salad, and spinach pies, that's what we normally eat on our Christmas," one man told WBZ's James Rojas.

One woman said her family prefers to make a traditional Christmas turkey as opposed to a regular turkey, "It's just better at Christmas time," she said.
