BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Celtics Head Couch Ime Udoka has been suspended for a year for violating team policies after reports that he had a consensual relationship with a woman from the organization.

The Boston Celtics announced Udoka is facing an immediate suspension for the 2022-2023 season, on Thursday evening. In the announcement they said a decision about his future with the Celtics will be decided at a later date.

"As soon as we learned there was a potential situation, we immediately brought in a respected law firm to conduct a thorough investigation, an impartial investigation, and they took some time and we actually concluded that investigation with a report two days ago, so that's the reason for the timing here," Wyc Grousbeck, Celtics owner said.

"I want to apologize to our players, fans, the entire Celtics organization, and my family for letting them down," Udoka said in a statement to ESPN's Malika Andrews. "I am sorry for putting the team in this difficult situation, and I accept the team's decision. Out of respect for everyone involved, I will have no further comment."

There has been speculation online from fans trying to identify the woman. Brad Stevens, Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations, said the speculation was unfair and hard for women on the staff, as they were dragged unfairly into the public eye.
