BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — If bikes can use bells to tell people to get out of the way why can't pedestrians?

WBZ's Matt Shearer went to Newbury Street to test it out.

During sunny days, Newbury Street's sidewalks are packed with people making it hard to get by in a rush. WBZ's Matt Shearer figured if bikers can use bells to signal when they want to get around, why can't pedestrians?

Time and time again people quickly moved out of the way when they heard Shearer ringing.

Shearer let Maz try it out on his walk home from work.

"It worked so well," he said. "You're doing the gods work right now."

He said he was planning on taking the T back but with the bell he could get home just as fast.
