Mass. Residents Breathe A Sigh Of Relief: Gas Prices Keep Going Down

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Gas prices in Massachusetts have continued to drop. On Monday, the average gas price in Massachusetts was $4.06, which was 42 cents lower than a month ago with an average price of $4.48, according to Triple A.

The average price in Massachusetts has gone down 10 cents since last week when it was averaging at $4.16.

Since regular unleaded gas prices peaked, prices have gone down almost a dollar per gallon, while diesel prices have dropped about $1.2 in Massachusetts. Regular unleaded gas prices hit its peak on June 12, with the highest recorded average price at $5.04. Diesel prices peaked on May 18, with the highest recorded average price at $6.41.

“Gas prices remain relatively high here in the northeast, where inventories are lower than in other parts of the country,” Mary Maguire, Triple A Northeast Director of Public and Government Affairs said in a statement. “Prices continue to fall steadily, however, and that’s good news for motorists planning their last summer driving trip over the upcoming Labor Day weekend.”

Massachusetts average price was 21 cents higher than the national average gas price at $3.85.

Other New England states have also felt the drop in gas prices. In Rhode Island the current average price is $3.95, in New Hampshire the average is $3.94, Connecticut's average is $3.88, Maine's average is at $4.01, and Vermont came in at the highest New England state average with $4.12, according to Triple A.
