BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — It's go time!

Hundreds of thousands of people made their way to Massachusetts on Monday for the 128th Boston Marathon.

This Patriot's Day, 30,000 runners are heading down the 26.2-mile course. They will pass cheering crowds and applause as they make their way from Hopkinton to the finish line on Boston's Boylston Street.

At the starting line this year, there is a big '100' marking 100 years since the race was lengthened and the starting line was moved from Ashland to Hopkinton.

For the competitive runners, there's more than a million dollars in prize money waiting at the finish line, which is 250 thousand more than last year.

Before the start of the race, Governor Maura Healey, Mayor Michelle Wu, and other local lawmakers are honoring 2013 marathon bombing victims and survivors with a wreath laying ceremony on the 11th anniversary of the attack.
