Police said the two "had been engaged in a hostile year-long on-again, off-again relationship."

Police believe Swale took his own life after shooting Tavares.

Swale allegedly forced his way into the home by shattering a sliding glass door before walking upstairs to Tavares's room. He then shot her in the chest while she was lying on the bed before fatally shooting himself, a preliminary investigation revealed.
