Roslindale Neighbor Helps Rescue A Mother And 2 Children From Flames

ROSLINDALE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A neighbor helped save a mother and her two children after a fire broke out in their home in Roslindale late Friday night.

The mother and children were trapped on the second floor of their home when their next-door neighbor put a mattress down outside for them to jump onto and escape. One of the children trapped was a five-year-old. The mother dropped the child out of the window for her neighbor to catch and bring to safety, according to the Boston Fire Department.

The fire broke out around midnight on Delford Street. Five adults and four children were displaced by the fire. The Red Cross of Massachusetts is helping the affected residents find housing.

The heat was so intense from the fire it melted the side of an adjacent building.

Two firefighters had minor injuries and were transported by Boston EMS for treatment. There is no report of what caused the fire, Boston Fire Department is investigating the cause.
