SOUTH BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- A shooting left one teenage boy dead and another injured late Monday night.
The shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. Monday near the area of O'Connor Way and Monsignor O'Callaghan Way in South Boston.
One was shot in the neck or head area, and another was shot in the side.
Both of the young men were taken to Boston Medical Center, where one later died. They have not yet been identified.
Boston Police Commissioner Bill Evans told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Ben Parker that something must be done about the number of guns on the streets.
"It breaks your heart, because these kids got so much life to live, and unfortunately, because of the senseless gun violence, one of them lost their life last night," Evans said. "We all gotta work harder. We're always trying to do better, the community and the parents, we all gotta step up to make sure these young kids are safe in our communities."
While the commissioner doesn't know if the shooting was gang-related, he does believe it was a targeted attack.
"They must've knew each other," he said. "Clearly there was some type of disagreement or something to cause that to happen."
Evans said it was difficult to gather information about the shooting on such a cold night.
"It was dark, it was cold, not a lot of people out, but we need the public to step up if they know any information," he said.
Officers did canvas the area, and will be checking cameras as well.
