BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Sen. Elizabeth Warren responded Monday to President Trump's referring to her as "Pocahontas" during an event honoring Native American World War Two heroes.

Trump was hosting a White House event Monday morning honoring several Navajo code talkers when he made the comments.

"You were here long before any of us were here," Trump told the men. "Although we have a representative in congress who they say was here a long time ago. They call her Pocahontas."

It's not unusual for Trump to call people names--but it's where he did it that has drawn criticism.

Sen. Warren responded later Monday.

"At an event like that, a celebration of heroes, that Donald Trump has to turn once again to a racial slur?" Warren said.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders later said it was ridiculous to call the name a racial slur.
