CHARLESTOWN (WBZ-AM) -- The crew of the world's oldest commissioned warship afloat is inviting the public aboard this weekend to help light a Christmas tree on the ship's deck.

The tree lighting will be hosted at 4 p.m. Sunday, and will feature holiday carolers, Santa and his elves, and free hot chocolate and cookies.

Before the lighting, the tree will be decorated with handmade ornaments created by children from Charlestown.

The ship earned the name "Old Ironsides" during the war of 1812 against Great Britain.
