Police: Robbery Suspect Drove Van Into Pool In Revere

REVERE (WBZ-AM) -- Everett Police said a man committed an armed robbery in Everett and then led them on a chase that left a van in a backyard swimming pool.

Police said the man, who has not yet been identified, drove the vehicle through a fence into the backyard of a home on Butler Street.

"All of a sudden, I hear like an engine rev, and then I hear this big crash," homeowner Paula Zajac told WBZ-TV. "I put my coat on and I went flying outside, and my whole fence is knocked down in the front, and there's this van sitting in my pool."

Linda Veralti, whose father lives in the home and who lives next door, told WBZ-TV what she saw.

"I saw there was a big, gaping hole in my father's fence," she said. "I saw somebody get out of the car and run through the backyard. And the cops were right here, and I told them where he was, and I guess he kicked the fence through and got away."

A massive search was launched, with local and state police including K9 units.

The man was eventually found behind Global Oil off Route 1A near the Chelsea River a little after midnight.

He is back in Everett Police custody. It wasn't yet clear when he would be arraigned.
