MINNEAPOLIS (WBZ-AM) -- This time three years ago, Malcolm Butler was a Super Bowl hero--making a game-saving interception against the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl 49.
Last night in Minnesota, after playing nearly 98 percent of the defensive snaps of the last three regular seasons, the Patriots benched their starting cornerback in a 41-33 Super Bowl loss.
Not one snap.
Why?
"We put the best players and the game plan out there that we thought would be the best tonight, like we always do," Head Coach Bill Belichick said after the game.
Butler was seen during the National Anthem fighting back tears--it's as if he already knew.
Butler is soon to be a free agent.
