BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- The Red Sox are out of options on Blake Swihart, so the catcher-turned-utility-fielder will either have to break camp with the big club next month, be traded to ensure Boston doesn't lose him for nothing, or the Sox would have to hope he'd pass thru waivers--and that's unlikely.

He's talented! And, early on, that's clear.

Swihart homered, doubled, and drove in three in a win over the Orioles Sunday, then he doubled and knocked in two in yesterday's pounding of the Pirates.

Swihart's batting .556 and slugging well over a thousand this spring. His new manager Alex Cora's impressed.

"Doing good at-bats, he's healthy, he's relaxing," Cora said. "Everybody knows where he's at, his situation. That's what you can do, we talk about it in the morning, don't try to do too much. He's doing a great job commanding the game."

Swihart's making the most of his chances.

"I'm getting opportunities, it's my job to go out there and prove myself and prove I'm ready to go, and prove I can help this team win, so that's what I want to do," he said.

If this continues, next stop Fenway.
