BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Boston Mayor Marty Walsh says President Donald Trump doesn't deserve credit for signing the Executive Order to end the separation of kids from their families at the southern border.
On WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Nightside with Dan Rea, Walsh, who has been a harsh critic of the Trump administration's immigration policy, said the solution could have been a lot simpler.
"Just simply pick up the phone, call Jeff Sessions, and say 'stop the policy'," Walsh said.
He said that, in the bigger picture, there are 13 million people in this country that are undocumented--and legislation needs to be passed to figure out what to do with them.
"If you're going to turn people away at the border, then turn people away at the border," he said. "But you have to figure out what to do with the people in this country that are here that aren't citizens."
The mayor says it doesn't matter who you are or what party you belong to--separating kids from their parents is plain wrong, no matter when it started.
"That is inhumane and not right," Walsh said. "And I will stand up for those kids to not be separated from their parents for as long as I'm alive on this earth, because it's the wrong thing to do. This is not about Obama, this is not about Bush, this is not about Clinton, this is not about Reagan ... it's a policy that doesn't work. It's failed."
