BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) --The inductees for the 2018 Massachusetts Broadcasters Hall of Fame have been announced. WBZ NewsRadio1030 is honored to announce that the late Lana Jones will be inducted posthumously at their annual Hall of Fame Luncheon on September 20.
Jones, a long-time general assignment reporter at WBZ NewsRadio1030, passed away suddenly at UMass Medical Center in Worcester on April 25 from complications to heart failure.
She joined the station in 1991 as a news writer, editor and fill-in anchor/reporter. She has been part of WBZ’s award-winning coverage of the Priest sex abuse scandal, the crash of John F. Kennedy Jr.’s plane, and the Worcester warehouse fire, the terror attack of 9/11 and the Boston Marathon Bombings and Trial.
Jones began her broadcast career in Toledo, Ohio while studying Special Education at Bowling Green State University. A native of Warren, Ohio, Jones moved to Worcester, Massachusetts in 1981 to join the staff of WAAF.
There she anchored the news and hosted a weekly talk show on local youth issues. From 1983 to 1988, Jones was a news anchor and reporter for WMJX, Boston. She worked as a reporter for the former WHDH radio from 1989 to 1991.
Jones is survived by her husband Steve who resides in Worcester, Massachusetts.
The ceremony will place in Sept 20. In addition to Lana Jones, another WBZ Alum Listo Fisher, will be inducted along with Victoria Block (WHDH-TV), Sara Edwards (WHDH-TV and WBZ-TV), Harvey Leonard (WCVB-TV) and car dealer Ernie Boch will also be honored posthumously with the organization's Pioneer Award.
