BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- David Price blanked the Indians yesterday over eight, three-hit innings. Southpaw's won five straight and leads the AL with a 1.09 ERA in six starts since the All-Star break.
Is this his best stretch in Boston?
"Absolutely," he said. "To not have that really bad game mixed in at some point, that was good. This is the pitcher Boston signed, so for me to get back to that, it's about time."
It took until year three for the $217 million man, but at least he's arrived. Price is tied with--of all people--Jon Lester for the MLB lead with 12 wins since May 12. The lefty has a 2.96 ERA in those 18 starts, and a 2.19 mark his last nine at Fenway.
Manager Alex Cora credited the turnaround to a better cutter, variety with fastball location, and separation in velocity.
Does David think he's a Cy Young candidate if he keeps this up?
"No, I don't," he said. "I don't think I deserve to be. I don't really care about that as well. I've got one, let somebody else get theirs. But I hope Sale comes back, and throws the ball the way he's been throwing, and he can win one. I'm not worried about those type of awards."
