Brighton Deck Collapse

BOSTON (WBZ-AM) — Residents of an apartment building on Lothian Road in Brighton were forced to evacuate after a tree fell on a rear deck due to Saturday’s high winds.

“That tree has caused some considerable damage to the rear fire escapes of the building. We got called back to this location today because the integrity of the fire escape has become worse. So, 12 people have been displaced at this time,” Boston Fire Department spokesman Marc Sanders said.

Sanders said the residents will have to remain out of their apartments until heavy equipment can be brought in to remove the tree and inspectors are able to rule it is safe to go back inside.

The building’s management is providing temporary housing for the displaced residents.
