Boston Fire Department Escorts Young Heart Surgery Patient

BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Heading to the hospital for heart surgery is not something that usually puts a smile on a patient's face, but for a young boy from New Hampshire, the hospital ride was a dream come true.

On the morning of his surgery, the 10-year-old was met outside his hotel by Boston's Fire Engine #3 for a ride to Boston Children's. "He was ecstatic," said Mark Sanders, a firefighter involved in the transport.

"He ran over to the fire engine when it arrived, greeted the firefighters with open arms, they put him on the fire engine, seatbelted him in, and I escorted the parents over."
