Suspect in Connecticut Stabbing, Kidnapping Captured

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A man police say stabbed his girlfriend 30 times and kidnapped her 6-year-old son on New Year's Day has been captured in New York City.

Hartford, Connecticut police say Edgar Manuel Maldonado was arrested on a fugitive from justice charge at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Police say Maldonado stabbed the woman at about 2 a.m. Tuesday during a domestic dispute. 

The woman escaped from a vehicle and was taken to the hospital for emergency surgery, while the suspect took off with the boy.

The child was found unharmed in Worcester, Massachusetts later on Tuesday morning.

Maldonado faces charges of attempt to commit murder, first-degree assault, second-degree kidnapping and risk of injury to a minor. 

It was not clear if he had a lawyer who could comment on the allegations.
