Biggie's Son: A Marijuana Company To Honor My Dad

Opinion-editorial By Brit Smith, host of Blunt Talk

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) -- It’s no secret that The Notorious B.I.G was a daily cannabis consumer. The rapper was outspoken in public and in his music about how he used marijuana to help him write and relax.

In March 1997, amid rumors that his wife Faith Evans was having an affair with West Coast rival Tupak Shakur, Biggie Smalls was killed in a drive-by shooting in L.A.

Tragically, The Notorious B.I.G left behind more than just a prolific catalogue of rap music; at the time of his death, he also left behind his five month old son, CJ.

Now 22 years old, CJ Wallace has made it his mission to memorialize his late father, and to pay homage to the plant that fueled much of Biggie’s work; Cannabis.

This month, CJ has officially launched his own cannabis brand with his dad’s legacy in mind; it’s called Think BIG.

After spending most of his life asking his family for stories about his father’s history, Biggie’s only son tuned into the fact that marijuana was a major source of creativity for his dad.

CJ has now collaborated with Lowell Herb Co. to bring The Frank White Creative Blend to select stores in California. That brand name was chosen as a nod to Biggie’s alter-ego, Frank White, which was inspired by the NY mafia kingpin played by Christopher Walken in the 1990 movie “King of New York.”

CJ says his new cannabis company is first and foremost a tribute to his dad’s source of creative influence. But he also designed the brand with a focus on rectifying the damage done by the War on Drugs.

The Frank White Creative Blend features packs of pre-rolled marijuana, made from signature sun-grown California bud, including Orange Sherbert, Rattlesnake Sour Diesel, and Banjo.

The packs are available for $40 at LA’s Rose Collective, and Sweet Flower, with a portion of the proceeds going to California’s Prison Arts Project.
