Croydon, NH Police Chief Fired, Leaves Town Hall In Underwear

CROYDON, N.H. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The police chief for Croydon, N.H. was fired on Tuesday. This comes after the town's board of selectmen decided to get rid of the one-man department.

The Union Leader reports that Police Chief Richard Lee had to turn in his cruiser and uniform, forcing him to walk home in his underwear. His wife picked him up after he had walked for about a mile.

Select Board Chair Russell Edwards told the Union Leader that the decision was about finances, and that they needed to find a more effective use of their money.

The police department cost between $40,000 and $50,000 dollars a year for the town. Lee was a part-time employee that worked 32 hours a week.

New Hampshire State Police will handle patrols in the town moving forward.
