BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Thousands of protesters showed up in Boston’s Franklin Park Tuesday night to demand justice for George Floyd and an end to police brutality.
The protest started on Blue Hill Avenue with a die-in where hundreds of people laid down in the street for almost nine minutes — the time it took for George Floyd to die in Minneapolis while an officer knelt on his neck.
The protest then grew with thousands of people marching through Franklin Park.
"This is a revolution. It is my hope that we are making change. That we're saying enough is enough," one protester told WBZ NewsRadio.
Then demonstrators turned to go back. Police then choose to drive their cruisers through the crowd, slowly, apparently to part the crowd and open the road. Police then backed down the road after being swarmed by demonstrators.
Protesters then headed to Boston Police Headquarters to continue their demonstration. Some officers outside did take a knee in solidarity. Protesters then gathered outside the State House.
One person in the crowd did throw fireworks toward police officers as they advanced up Beacon Hill. But things did remain mostly peaceful.
Meanwhile, members of the National Guard were seen on the streets of Boston in front of businesses that were boarded up.
