BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A new report released by MIT and Global Life Science Company Millipore Sigma looks to prevent another pandemic in the future.
The group, comprised of 180 healthcare, global science, and policy experts found that analyzing the genomic content from sewer systems can provide a seven day lead time on when an outbreak like COVID-19 might happen.
David Sun Kong, Ph.D., said cell phones can also be indicators of infections early on. He told WBZ NewsRadio's Kim Tunnicliffe that when someone speaks,
"When you talk, there are actually indications and ways to measure respiratory illness just from speaking," Kong said. "Internet searches, all kinds of 'digital breadcrumbs.'"
Kong said phones with digital contact tracing programs, along with privacy protections, could singlehandedly control a pandemic without mass lockdowns or masks.
