Body Of Missing Swimmer Found Off Coast Of Ipswich

IPSWICH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) -- The Coast Guard has recovered the body of a swimmer who went missing off the coast of Crane Beach in Ipswich on Friday.

The Ipswich Police Department said 24-year-old Eric Pecina had intentions of swimming to Plum Beach and back.

Pecine was found at approximately 4:55 p.m. in the area of Grape Island.

According to a WBZ-TV interview,' “A United States Coast Guard helicopter notified us that they had discovered an unresponsive male in the water up by Grape Island which is inside Plum Island Sound in Ipswich,” Police Chief Paul Nikas said. The individual meets the description of the individual we have been looking for, we have not confirmed the identity as of yet.”

Authorities are still investigating this incident, however an initial investigation indicates the cause of death was accidental.
