BEDFORD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — As Hurricane Ida was barreling down on Louisiana, a call went out for help evacuating dogs and cats from the state's shelters before the storm hit.
MSPCA Angell answered that call over the weekend, collaborating with the ASPCA to rescue three dozen dogs and 39 cats by flying them up to Massachusetts.
"We didn't have a lot of time to work, but we knew we needed to get animals out of the storm's path," said MSPCA Director of Adoption Centers Mike Keiley.
Those dogs and cats were flown into Hanscom Field in Bedford and are waiting out a quarantine period at the Northeast Animal Shelter, and will soon be up for adoption.
The organization said the animals are likely to be joined by around a hundred more cats from areas hit by the storm.
