BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) – Various search and rescues teams from Massachusetts and the Boston region are heading down to Louisiana to help with the response to Hurricane Ida.
About 80 members of Massachusetts Task Force 1 are on their way to the Gulf Coast with experts in swift and still water rescue. They are also with doctors, EMTs and K-9 units.
Tom Gatzunis is the planning manager of the task force. He says the group is driving down to the area non-stop with a caravan of supplies and equipment.
“They left yesterday at approximately 5:30 pm,” he said. “They’re driving straight through and will not stop until they reach their point of destination."

These members, some who also responded 16 years ago for Hurricane Katrina, are expected to reach Louisiana by Monday night or Tuesday.
Members of the task force are expected to be there for two weeks or until their job is complete.
The U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod also sent down a helicopter and crew over the weekend.
