LOWELL, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio)— Outdoor concerts helped bring live music back during the pandemic this summer, but as fall approaches, some venues and producers are worried about attendance for indoor shows.

Chris Porter, the producer of The Town and The City Festival in Lowell, spoke with WBZ's Drew Moholland (@DrewWBZ) about how he heard from friends in the industry about people skipping out indoor shows, even ones they already paid for.

"We're hearing anecdotes of large shows having something like 20 to 30 percent no-shows," Porter said. "These are people who even bought tickets and didn't show up to the show."

Porter recently decided to postpone his festival due the rise of the COVID Delta variant. Lowell's The Town and The City festival will now be held in April of 2022. It was originally scheduled for this October.

He said he made this decision out of an abundance of caution because some of the festivals venues are indoor venues.

"Even though in the New England states the COVID situation is mellower, there is a large skittishness about going in to indoor shows," Porter said.

The festival's website said all tickets purchased for the event in October will be honored when the festival happens next year.
