The North Shore's Pinball World Champion

PEABODY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — In an arcade on the North Shore, you may find a pinball wizard flexing his crazy flipper fingers.

Bowen Kerins is a mathematician by trade, but his pinball finesse has won him five world championships.

It's an intense hobby. "Imagine if you could be a pro athlete for three weekends a year," Kerrins told WBZ NewsRadio's Matt Shearer.

Kerins says with just a dollar's worth of plays, he's kept the game going for more than ten hours—a product of countless quarters and countless hours at arcades.

"When you're a high school kid, you don't need to go to the bathroom. You just want to play again and beat the machine again and again and again."

Even as an adult, playing arcade games has become an unexpected side hustle for Kerrins, as he rakes in the pinball prize money.

"It's a trajectory I never expected. It's just been magical."
