PLYMOUTH (WBZNewsRadio) - A woman is back on solid ground and recovering after her sedan crashed down a steep embankment in Plymouth Tuesday afternoon.
The Plymouth Fire Department responded to the area of Manomet Point road around 4:40 p.m. and found the white car about 20 feet down the rocky embankment.
Time was of the essence as crews worked to stabilize the vehicle. Using a winch and a cable, rescuers were able to secure the sedan. Then using a specially designed stretcher, called a Stokes basket, firefighters were able to get the driver out of the car, before pulling her to safety. She was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
“Our firefighters train constantly to be ready for whatever comes their way, and this incident is a prime example of why that training is important,” said Chief Foley. “This incident was unusual and dangerous, but our crews used their training and experience to quickly deploy a winch and Stokes basket to secure the vehicle and rescue the driver. Our firefighters work hard between incidents to be ready for emergencies like this, and today that hard work paid off.”
