TEWKSBURY, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) — A Lowell man was arrested Saturday night after police say he was threatening to kill people with a box cutter outside of a Tewksbury motel.

Authorities say 47-year-old Justin Maryland is facing several charges including assault with a deadly weapon and threatening to commit murder.

Tewksbury Police say they were called to the motel on 95 Main Street around 8:30 p.m. for reports of a man yelling and waving a box cutter at people in the motel's parking lot.

95 Main St. in Tewksbury is listed as a Motel 6.

Tewksbury Police Chief Ryan Columbus said that the suspect at first would not comply with the officers.

"This was outstanding work to bring this man safely into custody by de-escalating this incident," said Chief Columbus. "I'm grateful, due to the officer's quick response and actions, that no one was hurt during this incident."

Maryland is being charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Threatening to Commit a Crime (Murder), and Disorderly Conduct.
