Man Dies In Apparent Drowning In Plum Island Sound

IPSWICH, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) - A 72-year-old Ipswich resident has died after an apparent accidental drowning in Plum Island Sound Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities responded around 3 p.m. after getting a 911 call from workers at the Ipswich Bay Yacht Club, who said they spotted someone in the water just off the Club's mooring area. Police launched their marine unit and began searching for the swimmer.

A short time later, officials found an adult man, brought him to shore and began CPR. The man was taken to Beverly Hospital, where he later died.

Authorities said at this time in their investigation, his death appears to be an accidental drowning. Ipswich Police and State Police detectives with the Essex District Attorney's Office are investigating.
