UPDATE: "Misunderstanding" Prompts Search For Snake In Lexington

LEXINGTON, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) - Authorities in Lexington said it was a misunderstanding that led to a town-wide search for a Boa Constrictor this week.

Lexington police originally posted a photo of a large snake on their Facebook page on Wednesday, asking residents to keep an eye out for the "docile" reptile. Authorities now say the information and photograph given to Animal Control didn't paint the whole picture. Instead, authorities say their investigation found a person with a pet snake was in the center area this past Sunday. While showing off the snake, the owner put the reptile on the ground and allowed people to take photos. Those photos made the rounds among a group of kids in town, which ultimately landed in the hands of concerned parents.

Police say it was a parent who mistakenly thought the snake was freely roaming the area, who first called Animal Control and provided the photograph of the reptile.

Lexington Animal Control is now asking the owner of the snake to contact them.
