SUDBURY, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) - Police in Sudbury are warning residents after two residential break-ins within 48-hours.

One of the incidents occurred on Twin Pond Lane, the other on Cudworth Lane. While there does not appear to be any connection between the residents, police did note both residents are of Indian descent.

"Residential break-ins are infrequent for Sudbury, but regionally there is an increase exhibiting similar patterns." Police wrote on Facebook. " Specifically, evidence suggests that entry was gained through a 2nd floor window at both homes. This is consistent with an on-going residential break-in investigation, where often the victims are of South Asian and/or Indian descent."

Authorities said there are a number of steps you can take to protect your home, especially if you're going on vacation.

  • Always make your home look as though someone is home. Leave a kitchen light on or set up your smart device to play WBZ News Radio 1030 AM for a few hours a day.
  • If your home is equipped with an alarm system, you should use it.
  • Look your doors and windows and yes that means the second floor windows too. Often times criminals target second floor windows as they are typically not alarmed.
  • Remember to lock your garage and any outside sheds or other buildings you may have on your property.
  • Have a neighbor or family member pick up your mail. Even if the lights are on, a mailbox full of uncollected mail may give criminals the heads up that the house may be empty.
  • Remember, criminals are always on the look out for their next target. If you're heading out of town it's best to keep your plans private. Don't post details on social media and that goes for Grandma too.
