Things To Do This Weekend: August 11-13

BOSTON (WBZNewsRadio) - Welcome to the weekend folks and there's good news on the horizon; a Saturday full of sunshine. There is a slight risk of storms Saturday night, but everything should dry out by Sunday, leaving us with the perfect opportunity to get outside and make the most of what's left of the summer.

From tax-free weekend to the 140th Bolton Fair, there is something for everyone in the family. Here are a few of our picks for the weekend of August 11th through August 13th.

Madonna Della Cava Feast

Starting Friday and running through Sunday, another historic feast returns to Boston’s North End. The Madonna Della Cava Feast now in it’s 103rd year, will bring amazing food, live music, and dance performances to the neighborhood.

Friday, Aug. 11th, 7:00 p.m.  – Sunday, Aug. 12th, 11:00 p.m.

Dine Out Boston

Done Out Boston is well underway. Kicking off August 6th, the annual summer edition runs through August 19th. This year, more than 125 restaurants through out the city are participating, serving up delicious dishes from prix fixe menus. Lunch will run you $22, $27, or $32. Dinner is a bit more with prices ranging from $36, $41, or $46.

45th Provincetown Carnival

The party is on in P-town with its annual week-long Carnival. The event brings tens of thousands to the area with parties, costume contests, music and a massive parade down Commercial Street. The theme this year? Land of Toys. Remember folks, life in plastic, it's fantastic.

The 140th Bolton Fair

Fair-season has begun in New England, with the Bolton fair kicking things off Friday, and running through Sunday August 13th.

Carson Beach Community Kickback

Why not head to Carson Beach Friday afternoon for a relaxing family-friendly celebration including kayaking, beach games, music, and arts and crafts.

Catch a Flick on the USS Constitution

Ever wanted to view a film from the deck of the U.S.S Constitution? You’re in luck, Old Iron Sides will show Moana, Friday evening. Gates open at 7:20 p.m. and seating is first come first serve.

TAX FREE WEEKEND IS HERE.

If you needed an excuse to go shopping, here it is! This year’s Tax Free Weekend takes place Saturday, August 12th and Sunday, August 13th. Shoppers will be exempt from sales tax for most retail items of up to $2,500. There are a number of items exempt including, food/meals, motor vehicles, motorboats, gas, steam, electricity, tobacco, marijuana products, and alcohol.

Somerville Yart Sale.

Saturdays were once all about the ‘yard sale,’ but for residents in Somerville, they’ve taken the concept and replaced Cousin Jimmy’s old Baseball trophy with actual art for sale.Walk through the neighborhoods and take a peep at artwork decorating front yards, porches and other property.

Tai Chi At Castle Island

It’s finally the weekend and after a long, hard work-week, why not kick things off with some Meditation? Tai Chi is great for balance, stress release and reducing joint pain. All you need to bring is a water bottle, sun screen, and of course, a zen attitude.

28th Annual Swim Across America: Boston Open Water Swim

Local swimmers will make waves all in the name of kicking cancer’s butt in the annual open water swim event. Hundreds participate including Olympic swimmers. Proceeds from the swim benefit the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Mass General for Children Cancer Center.

Annual Blueberry Day At Green Briar Jam Kitchen

Tis the season of blueberries and if you happen to find yourself in East Sandwich on Saturday, the good folks at the Green Briar Nature Center & Jam Kitchen say ‘Come on by!’ Through out the day there will be blueberry desserts served up, with a side of a blueberry jam-making demonstration. Bringing the kids? They’re hosting a family story time at 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

STL GLD Presents… GLD FSTVL!

Check out the first of it’s kind one-day festival bringing art and music to City Hall Plaza, all while celebrating Boston’s rich hip hop scene over the last half-century. The festival comes from Mayor Michelle Wu’s office of Arts and Culture, STL GLD, and BID Worldwide.

Lawn On D Luau

Dust off your best Hawaiian shirt and head to Lawn on D this weekend for a Luau. Yes there will be live music, cold drinks, and even a pineapple toss.

Swampscott Summer Fest

Celebrate the dog days of summer at the inaugural Swampscott Summer Festival, which will bring a block-party style celebration to Humphrey Street.

Mozart & More at the Hatch Shell

It may not be the Fourth of July, but on Saturday night the Esplande will come alive with the sounds of Mozart and Joseph Bologne. Already have plans but want in on the fun? The concert will be recorded and streamed at a later date.

Chinatown August Moon Festival

Now in it’s 53rd year, Chinatown’s August Moon Festival will bring traditional lion dancing, Chinese music, singing, as well as arts and crafts to the neighborhood for a day long celebration. You’ll want to bring your appetite as Mooncakes, a traditional dessert filled with lotus paste and egg yolk, will be served. The delicious cake represents the moon and is often exchanged among family and friends during the celebration.
