CARVER, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) - Carver Police are investigating after recovering a stolen U-Haul with a stolen dirt bike in the back.

Authorities were called just before 4:30 a.m. yesterday, Thursday, August 10th, to the area of Wenham Shores Drive for a report of suspicious activity. The caller claimed to have seen a pair of men loading a four-wheeler all-terrain vehicle into the back of a U-Haul. This may not have appeared suspicious at first, but the caller said when they spotted a pair of bolt cutters, a call to police felt necessary.

As officers made their way to the scene, they were passed by a U-Haul on the opposite side of the road. Turning their cruiser around, the officers followed the truck until it turned into the Carver Public Library parking lot, just next to the Police Station. That's when the pair in the truck hopped out and took off running.

Authorities were quick to pursue the men, establishing a perimeter around the wooded area, officers searched for the suspects to no avail.

"The U-Haul truck was recently reported stolen out of Taunton. The suspects are believed to be a part of a group who have been stealing moving trucks and using them to steal dirt bikes, ATVs and other items throughout the region in recent months." Police said.

Officers located a stolen dirt bike in the back of the truck and said the suspects left the ATV in the middle of the road in Wenham Shore Drive, before police arrived. Both the bike and the ATV have been returned to their owners.
