MSPCA Files Felony Charges Against Owners Of Abused Dog In Greenfield

GREENFIELD, Mass (WBZNewsRadio) - The MSPCA's law enforcement division has filed charges against the owners of an abused dog, named Conrad.

In July, Greenfield Police and the Franklin County Sheriff's Office got a call about a dog, who needed medical attention. Officers went to the dog's home and found the pooch to be emaciated. He was brought to a nearby dog shelter, and the MSPCA was called in to assist in the investigation.

"MSPCA Law Enforcement Officer William Loiselle took the lead on the investigation and, along with Greenfield Police, interviewed witnesses who claimed to have seen Conrad repeatedly beaten, kicked, and hit with a blunt instrument in the past." The MSPCA wrote in a release.

Now Greenfield residents, Yarras P. Fletcher and Aliah K. Rivera, are facing two counts each of felony animal cruelty.

Conrad has been in the care of the MSPCA since July 24th and has begun a long road to recovery.

“It appears that Conrad’s rear left leg, tibia and fibula were all broken in the past and never treated, so they healed on their own,” explained MSPCA-Angell Director of Adoption Centers and Programs, Mike Keiley. “We also found 20 small rocks in his stomach, which luckily have passed on their own and didn’t need to be surgically removed. Conrad was also incredibly skinny when he came to us. On a scale of one to nine, with one being extremely emaciated and nine being obese, he was only a two.”

Conrad will soon be ready for a new and loving home. Those interested in adoption should visit the MSPCA'S Boston adoption center.

“Conrad exemplifies how incredibly resilient dogs are,” said Keiley. “Despite all he’s been through, he remains friendly and trusting. We know that he’ll make a wonderful companion for the right adopters now that he’s ready to find them.”
