Barnstable Police Investigating Deadly Crash Involving CCRTA Bus

BARNSTABLE, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) - Barnstable Police are investigating a deadly accident, involving three vehicles, including a Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority bus.

Authorities were called to Old Stage Road, near Carleton Lane in Centerville, late Tuesday afternoon just before 5 p.m. When officers arrived, they immediately began CPR on one of the drivers, who was not breathing. The 39-year-old was taken to the hospital were he died from his injuries.

Two others were also taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority said they have reviewed surveillance video of the crash involving their bus.

"The Cape Cod RTA’s fleet is equipped with video and audio surveillance and based on our review, our bus was traveling northbound on Old Stage Road in Centerville at the proper speed limit and within marked lanes when an oncoming vehicle veered into our travel lane, striking the bus at the driver’s side rear quarter." CCRTA said. "That oncoming vehicle also struck a vehicle head-on behind the bus carrying two occupants. There were no brake marks indicating that the oncoming driver had attempted to avoid the collisions. Our bus driver and three passengers were uninjured."

"The Department wishes to express our sincere condolences to the victims family." Barnstable PD said.
