BOSTON (WBZNewsRadio) - A wanted man from Texas is now in custody thanks to the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section (MSP VFS).
It all started back in February, when authorities say Brian Covington and another suspect broke into an apartment in San Marcos. Both were armed and wearing masks. The pair stole some 60 pairs of high-end luxury footwear, cell phones, a PlayStation 5, and jewelry.
Using surveillance footage, authorities were able to quickly identify Covington and sent his image to neighboring departments for help to bring him in. That's when San Marcos Police got a call from a neighboring police department saying a suspect matching Covington's description was also involved in an armed robbery, during which a round of gunfire was fired, outside a club.
Earlier this week, the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force gave Massachusetts authorities a call, saying they believed Covington may be on Martha's Vineyard. Around 10 a.m. on Wednesday August 23rd, MSP VFS Troopers along with Oak Bluffs Police spotted Covington near a rooming house. When they approached, Covington ran inside but was ultimately taken into custody without incident.
The 29 year old was taken to Dukes County Jail, where he's being held without bail pending rendition to Texas.
