BOSTON (WBZNewsRadio) - A 12-foot puppet will be visiting Boston this weekend. Little Amal has already been to more than a dozen countries, carrying a message of 'hope' for displaced people around the world.
Little Amal is the puppet of a refugee Syrian child, she began her journey from the Syrian border and has been on the move since. This week, Little Amal has been in and around Boston, making a number of stops during her long journey. Tomorrow, she'll begin the day at the Egleston Square Branch of the Boston Public Library, from there, we'll take a walk through the neighborhood to Franklin Park from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Then she'll make a stop in East Boston at a special event at the ICA Watershed, complete with music and dancing.
And finally she'll also make an appearance at the Red Sox game on Saturday afternoon, with a ceremonial first pitch in front of thousands.
"She is very excited. And very nervous…" Little Amal's team wrote on the organization's website.
Little Amal was created by the Handspring Puppet Company, and is made from light weight materials so she can be carried and operated in a number of different climates around the world.
"It takes four puppeteers to bring Little Amal to life: one on each arm, one supporting her back and one inside walking on stilts." Handspring Puppet Company said. "This fourth puppeteer also controls 'the harp,' a complex tapestry of strings that animate Little Amal's face, head and eyes."
