Boston Bruins Honor Victims Of Maine Mass Shooting

BOSTON (WBZNewsRadio) - It was a somber evening at the Bruins game against the Anaheim Ducks Thursday, during which both teams paid tribute to the victims of Wednesday night's mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine.

Fans were greeted with a moment of silence before the game to honor the 18 people who lost their lives in the massacre. Then Bruins goalie Jeremy Swayman, hung a "Lewiston Strong" jersey on the team's bench. The jersey read '207' on the back which is the area code of Lewiston. Swayman played for three years at the University of Maine.

Both teams decorated their sticks with bright blue tape to honor the State of Maine. After the game, the hockey sticks were autographed by players and are being auctioned off. All the proceeds will go to the shooting victims and their families.

The Boston Bruins Foundation is pledging a minimum of $100,000 to those impacted by the violence and are encouraging the public to donate as well.

"Maine is a special part of the Bruins family," the Foundation said. "Our hearts are with those affected by this terrible tragedy."

The Bruins lost 4-3 to the Ducks in overtime.
