PLYMOUTH Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) —  After much anticipation, the Mayflower II has arrived back on Massachusetts shores to Plymouth Harbor after a long winter of repairs in Connecticut. While it may not have been as exciting as watching a solar eclipse, dozens of spectators gathered at the Cape Cod Canal Visitor Center to watch the Mayflower make its triumphant return to Massachusetts through the canal, and while many who were there have seen this before, for others, it was a first-time experience.

“This is my first time, I’ve only lived here for two years,” Stephanie from East Sandwich said.

While it was Stephanie’s first time watching the great return of the ship, she brings some knowledge to the subject.

“I’ve [always] been a big Plymouth and Mayflower fan,” she added.

Thursday’s morning forecast brought a great deal of fog, which brought some concern for those who had gathered to see the ship.

“Yeah, I hope the fog lifts a little bit more,” another spectator said.

The fog finally did lift, and the Mayflower II appeared out of the clouds and was the spectacle that many had hoped for.

“It was awesome!” said Donna from Sandwich.

The Mayflower II is now on its way to Plymouth Harbor where it will be greeted by thousands of visitors to the historic replica ship during the busy summer tourist season in America’s hometown.
