Activist Leader With King Boston Responds To Derek Chauvin Conviction

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — After former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty of murdering George Floyd, a Boston activist leader said he is experiencing mixed emotions.

Imari Paris Jeffries, executive director of King Boston, said it feels good to see justice served in Minneapolis, but there is still work to be done.

“This was a traumatic experience for a lot of people, and it still is. I think it’s not over in the hearts and minds of many of us,” Jeffries said.

According to Jeffries, a third of pretextual stops involving Black people end in a shooting.

“Do we all want to live in safe communities? Absolutely. But, the system that we have is not working,” Jeffries said.

Chauvin was found guilty Tuesday of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter. Sentencing is set to happen in 8 weeks.
