ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Attleboro Water Department has issued a seasonal restriction that prohibits non-essential outdoor water usage during the hours of 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Water Management Act Permit begins immediately and will continue through September 30, 2021.
According to the City of Attleboro, water uses considered non-essential include:
- irrigation of lawns via sprinklers or automatic irrigation systems
- filling swimming pools
- washing of vehicles, except in a commercial car wash or as necessary for operator safety
- washing exterior building surfaces, parking lots, driveways or sidewalks, except as necessary to apply surface treatments such as paint, preservatives, stucco, pavement or cement
Water uses that are considered essential or will still be allowed between the hours listed above include:
- irrigation of gardens, flowers and ornamental plants by means of a hand-held hose or drip irrigation systems
- irrigation of lawns by means of a hand-held hose
- for health or safety reasons
- by regulation
- for the production of food and fiber
- for the maintenance of livestock
- to meet the core functions of a business (for example, irrigation by golf courses as necessary to maintain tees, greens, and limited fairway watering, or irrigation by plant nurseries as necessary to maintain stock).
Those who violate these restrictions will be fined; $25 for the first offense, $50 for the second offense and $200 for each additional offense.
