ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Cleanup continued Monday morning in Attleboro and Rehoboth, where a powerful thunderstorm caused quite a bit of damage Sunday night.
The storm knocked out power to over 5,000 customers at its peak, and took out trees in several neighborhoods.
City of Attleboro trucks lined Park Street near La Salette shrine, where crews were busy chipping downed trees.
Doris, a 94-year-old Attleboro resident, told WBZ NewsRadio's Kim Tunnicliffe she was sitting on her front porch on Martin Street when the storm hit.
"The wind was so bad I had to go in the house," she said. "Then when I got in the house, I heard this bang ... I went back on the porch, and the man next door said, 'Don't go on the porch, my tree just fell on your house!'"
She said there's now a hole in her roof.
Ben Therrien of Attleboro said the storm came on so fast, his family didn't have time to take cover from the intense winds, which snapped a 120-foot tree in his yard right in half.
He ran inside and took the video at the top of this post.
"We didn't make it to the basement, because within minutes, it was over," he said. "We just looked out the windows at all the trees down everywhere."
