Baker Administration Keeps Mask Order In Place, Following New CDC Guidance

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Gov. Charlie Baker announced Massachusetts will be updating COVID-19 restrictions in the near future, following new CDC guidance released Thursday.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) eased indoor mask-wearing guidance for fully vaccinated people, allowing them to safely stop wearing masks inside in most places.

“In the meantime, the current mask order remains in place,” a spokesperson for the governor said. “The Commonwealth is leading the nation in the vaccination effort and the Administration will continue to make vaccines available to everyone who lives, works or studies in Massachusetts.”

Until the Commonwealth updates their restrictions, coverings are required at all times in indoor public places.

Gov. Baker had previously announced in the state's reopening plan that all COVID restrictions would be dropped on August 1.

As of Thursday, kids 12 and older in Massachusetts can now get vaccinated for COVID-19. This comes after the CDC endorsed the Pfizer vaccine for kids 12 to 15 years old. Appointments can be found through the state’s VaxFinder tool. Residents can also preregister for an appointment at a mass vaccination site or a regional collaborative location.
