BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — During his daily coronavirus update Thursday, Gov. Baker stressed the importance of contact tracing calls in containing the spread of coronavirus.
As of Wednesday, May 6, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Massachusetts is 72,025.
"It's vital that you take that call," Baker said. "Doing so means you're helping your family, your friends, and your community and the rest of us by reducing the spread of the virus."
Contact tracing call will have the caller ID "MA COVID Team" from a number beginning with either an 833 or an 857 area code.
According to Baker, the community tracing collaborative has connected with about 14,000 confirmed cases and reached out to over 7,500 of their contacts since calls first started in early April.
There are more than 1,600 people working in contact tracing. Baker said more are anticipated to join the staff.
"We're counting on all of you at home to do your part here and to answer that call," Baker said.
Baker also said hygiene practices will remain important when the state opens, such as wearing face masks in public and regular hand washing.
