BEDFORD, N.H. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Late Friday night, the Bedford Police Department Communications Center received several emergency calls reporting that a plane crashed on the shore of Merrimack River in New Hampshire near Manchester-Boston Regional Airport.
According to police, officers responded to the crash site and found the wreckage of a twin-engine aircraft that was engulfed in flames. The Bedford Fire Department arrived and extinguished the fire.
Police Chief John Bryfonski said that the pilot has been tentatively identified as 23-year-old Emanuel Vomvolakis of Linden, Michigan. Positive identification is pending an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, police said.

Officials said that the aircraft was being operated by Castle Air, based in Canton, Ohio, and was transporting medical supplies. The flight departed from the Essex County, New Jersey Airport and was inbound to the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport when Vomvolakis reported engine trouble prior to the crash, police said.
Bedford Police said the investigation of the crash will be conducted by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.
