BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) —It is music to the ears of students at the Berklee College of Music: school officials announced on Thursday they are reopening the campus in the spring semester.
The Boston-based university has been learning remotely for the current fall semester like many other colleges in the country. But school officials said in a press release that they will reopen campus facilities on Jan. 25, 2021 for the beginning of the spring semester.
The hybrid-learning model, called "Spring Back to Berklee," will blend remote and on-campus teaching. University leaders said that they plan to introduce safety precautions based on state Covid-19 guidelines from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
"This includes updating classrooms and communal spaces for social distancing purposes, expanding grab-and-go food options at the dining hall, converting residence hall rooms to accommodate social distancing and exploring new scheduling systems to limit the number of people on campus at any given time," the press release said.
For students who cannot return to campus for the spring semester, they will still have the option to take their classes remotely.
The spring break period that typically happens in the middle of the semester will also be removed, to eliminate student travel and reduce the spread of Covid-19.
